Why “Less Scrolling”?

I built this newsletter because I was drowning in my own news habit. I'd open a news site intending to catch up, and forty minutes later I'd still be scrolling, anxious and overwhelmed and no closer to actually understanding what was going on.

So I started reading about how philosophers, journalists, and researchers think about healthy news consumption. The common thread: most people don't need more news. They need less noise, more context, and a pace that lets them think. The endless scroll isn't a feature. It's the problem.

The Less Scrolling Newsletter is the solution I wanted for myself: one email a week, seven trends that actually matter, and enough context to understand them without spending your evening in a doom-scroll spiral.

Most news is too zoomed in. Fragments without trajectories, events without history, problems without progress. This newsletter zooms out.

What matters, not what's loud

No sports, celebrity gossip, or outrage-cycle stories. Every trend in your digest will still matter in six months.

Context over headlines

Each trend has context for what's happening and why, plus a zoom-out that places it in the bigger picture. Everything grounded in what the sources actually say.

Bright spots every week

Every digest ends with a few pieces of good news from the week. Real stuff, not feel-good fluff.

Actions you can take

When a trend connects to something actionable, the digest includes specific civic actions with enough detail to actually follow through. Not 'stay informed.' Real steps.

How it works

1.

Every day, articles are pulled from 13 trusted sources across the political spectrum: Reuters, AP, NPR, NYT, WSJ, BBC, The Economist, and more.

2.

Each Thursday, AI reads through hundreds of articles to find where multiple independent sources are all pointing at the same thing. That's the trend.

3.

A digest lands in your inbox Thursday morning. Seven trends with sources, a few bright spots, and some actions if the timing is right.

This is an experiment

This newsletter is a work in progress. The format, the sources, the approach, all of it. What you're reading today may look different in a few months, and that's fine.

If something resonates or feels off, just reply to any digest. I read everything.

The news, at the pace of understanding.
